Choices are everywhere you look. They’re in every minute of your existence. The dictionaries definition of choice is, “an act or instance of choosing; selection.” That means that you are making an act or instance every minute of the day.
You wake up. Already before your eyes are open you have a list in your head of what choices you have to make. Should I wear jeans or a skirt today? Well if it’s cold outside you would decide to wear jeans but if it’s warm then a skirt. So you have to choose whether or not to check the weather network. If you do decide to do so then you have to choose which method you’re going to use; radio,
Internet, TV or simply walking outside. Once that is done you go back to your original dilemma, jeans or skirt. Then what colour and style do you want? After that you have to find a shirt that goes with that. Sweater or short sleeved? Then what colours do you want? Then you need to decide what to do with the mop you call hair. Up, down, partial up and partial down?
What’s really funny is that all of this can be decided with in, at max, a minute before you even open your eyes. All you have to do after that is go about doing what you chose. Go outside to find out what the weather is like. Then, if it’s cold, blue jeans with a white sweater and hair partial up and partial down. If it’s warm then a black pencil skirt with a pink tang top and a white blouse with hair partial up and partial down.
That is just clothes!
You’
ve also got the whole food thing. Packed lunch or buy lunch. It packed then what to pack? Sandwich or TV dinner? If buy lunch then where to go and when you get there what do you want? There’s also what to drink which is really ridiculous. With coffee, by the time you’
ve made all your decision the request is absurd. “Hi I’d like a non-fat, decaf, sugar free, non-sweeten late with a pound of whipped cream and sprinkles. Chocolate sprinkles.” See what I mean?
Then there is the life altering choices. You know the ones. They should not be taken lightly and should be given lots of thought. A few examples would be; what university to go to? What to major in? Should I be in a relationship now? Should I say yes or no to marriage/should I ask them to marry me? (Don’t get me started on wedding choices because I’d be here for the rest of my life) What job should I take? Do we want kids? What should we name the kids? When should I retire? What should I do after I retire? What can I do to make sure my family
doesn’t have any debt when I’m gone?
At this moment I’m at a yield. I know what my plans are for the next year at the very least but that
doesn’t mean that I am without choices. What should I pack and what should I leave behind? What job’s should I look for and how much time to I have for them? There are all sorts of choices that must be made and they must be made now. The only choices that is imminent. To chose or not to chose.
